Internet of Things

The Internet of Things is the network of physical objects or "Things” embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

How it works

The internet of things works by sensors sending information to a smart device using the internet and being able to control things from your smart device. It also sends information to other devices such as your alarm telling your coffee machine to make a coffee when the alarm goes off.

Where you would use it

You would use the internet of things nearly everywhere. You could use it in the kitchen to tell your oven to turn off from your car and the refrigerator can tell you when things are going off. You could use it the lounge room to tell the television to turn off when it’s finished recording you could use it to tell your heater to turn off when it gets to hot or the air conditioner off when it gets to cold.

How it has contributed to our lives

Driving will be safer. Traffic lights will change depending on traffic conditions. They could also change when an emergency vehicle goes past. Road sensors will change speed limits depending on traffic and car accidents. Shopping will be easier. Smart fridges could tell you when you’re running low on certain foods. But it’s not all good there will also be bad things the internet of things could get hacked into easily.

It’s surprising how much of these things are actually possible.
